Shifts in Verb Voice and Mood Board Game 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th Grade Grammar
This board game will support your lesson on recognizing and correcting inappropriate shifts in verb voice and mood (L.8.1.D) by giving students an opportunity to practice using the language in a fun (and slightly competitive) way.
The game can be played in pairs, or groups of 3-4.
Students sort the cards into their categories. Then, students roll the die and move their counter around the board. The space they land on is the category they have to answer. Another student takes the top card and reads it out. The categories include matching the correct clause, recognizing a shift, naming the shift, and completing the sentence so the verbs are in the same voice or mood. The player who landed on the space has to form the sentence correctly. If they are correct, they move forward one space. If they are incorrect, they stay on the space. The first person to reach the end wins!
